When You Thought You'd Never Stand Out

To challenge my efforts as all or nothing, black or white, night or day, would be an insult to trying to make a difference
One action can equate a small change in the system or the way you live your life
If I were to stop smoking cigarettes you might encourage me as I embark on my quest
You may site reasons such as "Not smoking is better for your health" or "Less cigarette smoke means cleaner air for the rest of us"
Maybe I would find it difficult to stop smoking, and would then reduce the amount of cigarettes smoked per week
and maybe, just maybe, you would still support me (though many of us would still support this after all, "Progress, even if small, is better than no progress at all").
The point is, we criticize those for choosing not to eat meat or maybe even just factory farmed meat
We question those who choose to live without sweat shop made clothing
Are these individual acts not accounted for as what the majority of us would define as change?
Change in this case being defined as the conscious effort to cease use of products that cause ill to our society, our health and even the world
How do you define change?
How do you define progress?

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

And Now, Something Nostalgic

My Ipod was on shuffle and while it circulated through 3,200+ songs a plethora of memories came rushing back to me. These memories were from my childhood, teen years ( my golden age of music) and the college years. Thought it would be nice to post a nostalgic clip every now and then.

The (International) Noise Conspiracy-Smash It Up
This song reminded me of being in high school and holding strong ideals about the government, careers and society (usually ideals that opposed these institutions) It makes me smile and even wonder why, as I get older, dreams become less fantasy as they slowly fade away into the reality of adulthood. In other words, the older we get the less we dream wildly.

Locks of Love Pt. 1 & 2

Sometime in December of 2009 I decided to grow my hair out in order to donate it to Locks of Love (subsequently, and without much thought a beard is also accompanying the "let your hair down" mentality). This I feel is another way to give back to the world and make a positive contribution to someone else's life. Although the ideas of travel and humanitarian work are on the horizon, the means are not yet available to do that

"The hardest part of turning yourself into a caveman, homeless person or whatever people want to call you is the aforementioned names. To be thought of as crazy, disheveled, rebellious and by a small handful, compassionate does not matter. Looks do not matter. I just want to help those in need with what means I can provide".

I will be documenting the process on a monthly basis.

Self Perception

One of my favorite American artists.

On Self Perception:

Who you are in the moment
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Is it the idealized self of who you were or how you perceive yourself to be?
