Musique

Last night I went to a recording studio to watch a friend of a friend cover some Muse tunes with his band. A couple things went through my head. 1) I am really not a Muse fan but those guys did an awesome job! 2) Hearing the crash of cymbals, reverb of guitar, distortion of a bass being slapped into submission, made me miss being in a band.

Bands give a sense of community and an outlet for expression. Art through music. It is very therapeutic. There was always good times to be had rehearsing in garages or empty warehouses until 4am and then packing up and reflecting on what we had created. There were nights where we drove around to different venues asking if they wanted a band to play for free, though we lacked the half-stacks and other professional stage equipment, we were ready to rock with 15 watts of carnage!

I haven't really reflected on how much I miss this. I love creating music and simply being around other musicians. I am glad that I have been practicing more and look forward to the months ahead where time will free itself from the responsibilities of school and my focuses can return to the things I love.
