Snow Day

Sitting in a warm Brooklyn apartment while the snow gently falls outside gives me some time to catch up with some old friends. Though catching up typically means reading updates on ones blog, I am given the opportunity to visit my friends no matter where I am currently.

What I am discovering is how many of my friends are doing exacty what I am doing, travel, self discovery, minimalist life styles, and simply connecting with others around the world. It is very reassuring to read about these events as I have been traveling around this massive country. Equiped with a car, camera, tent and sleeping bag I have seen and expereinced so much in nature and in the joys of relating to other human beings. Hearing that many of my friends are now doing the same is comforting to know that we all are not settling for a conventional life anymore. There is more to life than what we are presented with. There are many roads to follow. I have ditched the idea of "finding" myself on top of a mountain, driving endlessly into the night, or in a foreign city and made myself open to just being in every moment I awake or retire to.

Though anxious to get home, there is always a desire to be free from your roots. You wish to be the leaf that is carried by the wind, landing where the momentum is lost.

I think the snow has let up. Time to move on.
